2 Samuel 11:2-5
2 and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful in appearance.
3 So David sent and inquired about the woman. And one said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”
4 David sent messengers and took her, and when she came to him, he lay with her; and when she had purified herself from her uncleanness, she returned to her house.
5 The woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, “I am pregnant.”
Well, you probably know the rest of the story in this chapter as David tried desperately to cover up his sin. In fact, David finally set Uriah, who was Bathsheba’s husband up on the battlefield to get killed.
Then came chapter 12 and a visit from a prophet named Nathan, whom God sent to David. Be sure and read the account. You will see that God saw it all!
Finally, we get to see the breaking point of God’s conviction;
2 Samuel 12:13
Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”
We will say more tomorrow, but what I want us to see today is how all of this started.
2 Samuel 11:1
Then it happened in the spring, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him and all Israel, and they destroyed the sons of Ammon and besieged Rabbah.
But David stayed at Jerusalem.
There it is! David stayed at Jerusalem. He was supposed to be on the battlefield, but he made this ONE DECISION to stay home JUST ONE DAY.
What a strong reminder to us all of how just ONE decision can change everything!
Do not underestimate how important ONE seemingly harmless decision can be, when it is outside of God’s will for you.
