Romans 6:19

“I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness,
resulting in sanctification.”

We often describe our lives before being born again as being “slaves to sin” or a “prisoner of the world, flesh and devil.” Now those descriptions are most certainly biblical and true. However, notice in our verse something that we might overlook.

“For just as YOU PRESENTED YOUR MEMBERS AS SLAVES TO IMPURITY”

Yes, we were prisoners to sin, but we were willing prisoners!! “Presented” here means to stand close by and yield to. I was in bondage and I was under the control of this world’s system that is in opposition to God and I was under the control of my ungodly flesh that simply desired to please self and I was under the control of the “god of this world” Satan himself. However, please do not miss this; I was a willing slave! It is not like I hated the life of a slave. No!! I willingly yielded up myself as a slave to sin!

My masters never had to beat me into submission. I was always standing close by and ready and willing to be the first one to answer the call to whatever, wherever and whenever.

However, when the Holy Spirit convicted me of sin, righteousness and judgement to come (John 16:8-11) all I could do is offer my empty, unworthy hands and heart up to God and ask for His mercy and grace to forgive me and change me. Praise God, in a moment I experienced (2 Corinthians 5:17) “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”

God did not make me a “better” person. God made me a brand new person!! Now, all I have just described is the life of every person who’s ever truly been born again. Paul’s words to us here are ”now present your members as slaves to righteousness,
resulting in sanctification.”

Just as faithfully as I stood close by, ready to answer the call and commands of sin, now I am to stand close by ready to answer the call and commands of righteousness!

That is a radical change and yet, that is just simply true salvation.
